I got the opportunity to purchase a store back in Sep 2014 and since I did not have the money I asked my cousin if I could borrow 10k but instead of lending me the money he decided we would partner up and do a 50/50. He would be the investor and I would run the store and make it happen. Fast Forward to now and the deal changed he no longer wants to give me 50 percent since he invested too much money (which doesn't make sense to me since I invested my time) and he is 100k+ debt and the store has not been producing enough money to make it profitable anytime soon. I end up getting a good job because of the store that potentially is going to make me a lot of money. The store is up for sale now at a huge loss and I am no longer running the show full time but someone else is. Now my cousin wants me to pay up the loss since I got a good job from the store.. But, I put in all my time and effort and my skills is what really got me the job. Should I feel obligated to pay the loss? what do you guys think? I did try my best at making it happen it's just the industry is not what it used to be.
Your cousin INVESTED money instead of lending it to you and didn't give you any ownership - you were just an employee - YOU OWE HIM NOTHING!!! - walk away and start your new job. HE should have known that ANY business is risky with NO guarantee of EVER making a profit
50/50 Means you each take half the profits or each pay up for half the loss.
25 percent is what I would be getting maybe even less.
