My, my, you are quite naive aren't you. To think that someone could suddenly mandate how everyone should act. No one is that powerful and not everyone would agree or abide by any such decision.
But let's say that you could wave a magic wand. First fossil fuels are solar energy captured by photosynthesis millions of years ago and stored chemically. But aside from that, let's say that we suddenly switched from fossil fuels to solar panels. Technically, this could be done, we could use solar energy to synthesize gasoline and diesel from CO2 and H2O, we've already done this with the CR5 at Sandia Labs Sunlight to Petro project. But the cost of solar power as of 2007 was 38 cents a kwh while the cost of coal power was 0.6 cents per kwh, that's an increase of 6,333%. Imagine what it would be like if your family's energy cost went up that much, instead of a hot shower, you could only have a drop of hot water, you only have a second to cook your food and only a moment of warmth from your furnace. Most companies rely on energy to produce their goods and services, if their costs went up by that much, would they still be in business? How well do you think your family will be is there are no jobs?
You can't just mandate a change and any rapid changes will have devastating effects, also how different would the change really be? What are the consequences of such a change? It's a fairly childish thing to believe a simple change can fix all the world's problems and everyone has felt that at some point in their life, then experience teaches us otherwise.
Because I want to own my own freaking solar panels so that I do not have to pay anyone for electricity
And because well established electrical grids are already in operation and would only be supplemented by the extra power.
The only reason that some electrical companies are allowed to be monopolies is because the grid needs to be one organized system.
more regulation means more taxes, more competition means lower prices because companies want you to switch to them and their low prices. Whereas monopolies can charge whatever huge amount they feel like because they can and there is no competition to undercut them with low prices.
The UN does not have the authority to pass rules on any individual nation.
They are too concerned about economy/money than life and well being of all life on the planet
(or at least any government out there?)
