can a bank call my employer to verify income?

I recently applied for a mortgage but I was demoted at work and had to take a $2.80 pay cut. I have additional income from rental properties but I haven't told my loan officer about the paycut, Iknow I can still make my payments. Can the bank call my employer and ask how much I make. I don't want my loan to be denied when I'm about to close

not only can they call your employer to verify income, but guess what they WILL call to verify your income. If you don't want the bank being that noisy then by all means don't ask to borrow money from them.

Firstly it doesn't matter what YOU think you can afford to pay each month. Its what the bank think you can afford to pay each month - they may be two entirely different amounts !

Your bank will contact your employer to check your information. If you try and hide the paycut to get a loan, then you are committing fraud. You can be prosecuted for it and you can say goodbye to any sort of loan from anyone for a very long time. Not really worth it to be honest.

Declare the paycut for goodness sake.

Surely that they could see how much you get from deposits? Or if you are paid in another way or to a different bank then I don't see how they could do it without your permission, although it may be that if you don't give permission then you won't get the loan.

Thy can,and they do and for a mortgage, they will

yes they can
