As a user of on-site generation, the main drawbacks are wind is NOT a consistent item, and it varies a lot thereby varying the output available CONTIUOUSLY.
Kills birds? Maybe, but I have birds that NEST on the tower and some of the local predator birds use it as a perch for hunting.
Noisy? Can be VERY noisy, if NOT properly mounted or not properly maintained, otherwise not too noisy; but larger 'home' models should NOT be building mounted due to transmission of vibration through the structural elements. (It CAN be a problem climbing the tower for some of the maintenance, but I am 69 and disabled, and STILL manage to do so!)
Damaged by high speed winds? NOT if properly designed to AUTOMATICALLY slow down or turn out of wind during high winds IF a horizontal unit, (vertical units do NOT have the problem.)
One at a 'north pole' facility 'idled' for 40 YEARS with no damage or maintenance while the site was closed; and simply greasing/oiling things and turning it into the wind caused it to start producing power again.
Wind turbines (while awesome) have a number of drawbacks - they are large, expensive, and delicate.
They actually have to be shut down in high winds (when you should be getting your best performance) or they will tear themselves apart.
Of course, not everywhere that needs power has consistent wind, so it's really only feasible to harvest wind in places where it blows steadily (near the coast is usually good).
Some people don't like to see turbines all over the place (I think they are cool, but I can understand not wanting to have them everywhere).
I don't know the drawbacks from wind power , For your energy concerns go to www.renewable-green-energy.pw
Not only will help save on your utility bills, you can also earn in the process, Pay it Forward
Bird kills.
Noise ??? (I haven't actually heard one.)
There are folks who seem fine with looking at streets, etc, but complain about seeing the turbines.
My take is that they're folks who generally like to complain. I ignore 'em.
OR, they complain because it costs more to build a turbine than burn coal and oil today.
Kills birds---Look ugly--the production is bad for the environment.
I am writing a paper on wind power. Can anyone provide me with a reliable article on the disadvantages/drawbacks of wind power?
