For a comparison my smallish house in Florida with heat and a/c used ~1200kw / month. I won't tell you how low it goes when I am lucky enough to need neither heat or a/c. Replacing the old refrigerator dropped that average noticeably. Your usage does seem high so you have to figure out where the power is being used. Your water heater, stove, oven, and dishwasher might be hogs. If you can have someone watch the meter for your apartment and try turning everything off, or turning individual items on one at a time. There also are meters to put in the line and measure power usage over a days period for instance.
I'm curious if the electric is turned off during he months you are not there or what the usage is then. What the base rate per and kw rates are. Do you have time of day rates? A (not so) Smart meter? Or going to the improbable if a neighbor has tapped into your line. In the end it is not like you have an option to them or paying the bill.
You are looking in the wrong place, our Pacific NW electric bill was over $100 a month for a simple rural cabin with no big ticket electric appliances, no washer, dryer etc. We scrapped the old dinosaur of a refrigerator we had and used an ice chest for a month, the bill went down to $33. Your PC will draw about 100 watts, a fridge about 500.
Do you have access to the meter ? Take your own readings. Inform the supplier their billing is inconsistent with your usage and ask them to investigate
Ask to have your meter retread. Don't become angry. They will, work with you.
Also check your refrigerator. They are a big user. Your fridge might not be working properly.
I currently live in a 1 bedroom apartment in San Diego, with a roomate. Our apartment is approx 1000 square feet with NO AIR CONDITIONER, we never use the heater and we live on the top floor (3rd). we have a 32inch flat screen but we never watch tv. we cook frequently on our electric stove but keep most of the lights off throughout the day. my gaming pc is ussually running 6 to 10max hours a day and consumes about .3 kilowatts per hour (avg 2 to 3 kwatts a day).
now for the confusing part
Our electric bill for a 1 bedroom, with No AC was $180 this month. Apparently we used 1277 kilowatts an average of 39.9 Kilowatts per day. As mentioned earlier, the ONLY electricity Hog in the house used frequently is my pc (at 0.3 kwatts per hour)
to put this in perspective, if i ran my pc EVERY SINGLE DAY i would have to run it for 133.3 hours STRAIGHT every single day (which is impossible) to reach the 40 kilowatt average.
how should i handle the situation while on the phone with SDGE tomorrow because I REFUSE TO PAY THIS BILL,
weve only live here a few months and every month the bill climbs higher and higher despite our efforts to lesssen our energy use...
