How to move out of my house?!?

Posted at: 2015-05-24
Long story short, Im a spoiled, little rich city boy whos parents just both lost their high paying jobs. I flunked out of college in my first semester. My mom blames me for not being able to sleep. My dad hates me as well as all of my parents rich snobby friends think im a f*** up. I just want to move out and work and eventually go back to school. Problem is, my parents pay for all my s***!!! How to i break this mold and follow my dream of moving to Colorado and working in the ski resort industry?! I need to get out of my house as I feel embarrassed at the presence of my family and their friends. And i flunked out of school because I was partying hard and learned a big f****** lesson from that. Where do I start? It also doesn't help that im a type 1 diabetic and my parents don't want me moving out for that reason also! I want to start supporting MYSELF, not having stressed out parents support me who think making anything less than a million a year sucks ***....I just do not want to be like them, I want to work as hard as them and start my life on my own at 19. Advice is extremely appreciated. Where do I start?

Your type 1 diabetes really throws a monkey wrench into what you want to do. You need your parent's health insurance in order to remain alive.

The best thing for you to do is to figure out something to do NOW and start earning money while you are still under the protection of your parents. This gives you experience and by saving the money you earn, it gives you something to start with if you really do want to move away and do something else.

Doing this without a plan is a lousy idea.

Escaping to Colorado sounds like more flaking out, By the summer in Colorade you might be living in your car or on the streets. Being more serious about your future and getting the essential schooling it takes these days to have a decent life makes more sense, there are 2 year technical degrees that pay pretty well, and have a minimal of useful education requirements.

You start with basic finance. You need to figure out how much money you can make by yourself. Then distribute that money into categories like first off paying rent. If you want to move out you need a place to stay. You need to figure out how much money you can afford to pay monthly towards rent.

As for all the stuff your parents pay tell them thanks for helping out but you will now pay for it yourself. Hand over your phone and anything else they pay for.

You are 19. You are free to walk out the door any time.

if you really wanted to support yourself, you would walk, but you don't, you are scared of being cut off.
