i live in the BC lower mainland and ever since i started to move into apartments, i think i have been finding silverfish or something of the same family
the reason i say "i think" is because im not actually sure what it is that im finding.
ive read that silverfish appear most often in storage rooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms and kitchens and thats where i have been finding them [my kitchen and bathroom].
However:
1. they dont look quite the same, ive seen pictures of silverfish and these bugs i am finding seem to have around the body shape [but it just looks like 1 whole oval] however they seem to have a white/yellowy body with horizontal stripes on them. these bugs im finding also seem to have shorter... limbs and dont seem to have those 3 long limbs on its back. these things also seem to be a bit smaller, about 1-1.5 cm
2. they dont seem to move the same way. silverfish seem to. i cant really explain it but silverfish to me seem to drag their bodies around when they crawl whereas these bugs seem to crawl like a spider. as ive said, cant really explain it
3. i never find them at night. ive only seem them in the day time with my lights turned on
4. non of my books or newspapers are being chewed up
i have never found more than 1 at a time crawling on my floors and never more than 2 or 3 in my bathtub.
i have had carpet and hardwood floors if that helps.
what i would like to know is what exactly im finding in my house and how to get rid of them.
