a difference of energy levels
a ball on your desk for example has a potential energy and then when the ball falls of the desk, the potential energy of the ball is turned to kinetic (moving) energy.
the energy of a body or a system with respect to the position of the body or the arrangement of the particles of the system is potential energy
Quite literally, the potential for energy. It is energy that has somehow been stored. The most common example is an object at an elevated height, if you drop it, it falls and therefore has kinetic energy. The energy could also be stored chemically as in batteries, gasoline and food.
Potential energy is energy which results from position or configuration.
lets say your car is outta gas ok now lets say your brothers car is full of gas you see where im going with this right your brothers not home and has no locking tank and you got a gas can and a hose your brothers gas tank is "potential energy" for fun ill give ya one more your neighbor is having a party he dont like you but you can see an ice chest full of beer so you watch till hes gotta wizz cause that beer is "potential energy" ok now you try one this principle can be shifted in many respects if your looking for a particular answer it could be a long time coming as "potential energy" has many faces and your welcome (in advance)
