We already do and have been doing it from before we were even humans.
All the food we eat contained energy originally from the sun captured by plants. Even animal as some where along the food chain plants are the prime source.
Fire wood is using plants for heat and light, or mechanical energy in a wood fired steam engine.
Bio fuels and bio gas are examples of using stored plant energy as a renewable energy source.
Even fossil fuels are basically stored solar energy harvested by plants. [the problem is that using fossil fuels changes our climate].
It might be possible to use some form of fuel cell using the sugars that the plant produces by tapping into the sap of the plant. Just hook your apple tree to your TV set.
yes, if we can break the process of photosynthesis, i.e capturing the electrons before plant utilize them, we can capture solar energy.go here to learn.

yea ,when you eat , burn , or ferment them
Ivy is a fast growing plant that always tries to face the sun. Wouldn't it be great if we could capture unused solar energy from the leaves of Ivy or similar plants? We wouldn't be forced to build solar cells for more power b/c the plants would grow themselves.
