Try installing curtains with a thermal liner. In the summer they will block out the hot rays of the sun and keep your home cooler - this way your a/c will not have to work so hard and save you money. In the winter they will save you money on your heating bill by keeping the cold outside. They are especially beneficial if your windows are not insulated.
You can easily make insulated thermal curtains yourself or if you prefer, buy them ready to be installed.
Use less electricity.
