You probably should get a structural engineer to address the loss in strength to resist lateral wind and seismic loads when you take out the wall sections. You may also need to get a building permit to address the openings with respect to property lines and location of neighboring homes for fire resistance.
It's absolutely possible. The most difficult part is that a new steel lintel will need to be installed to support the CMU above the new opening. The cost to sawcut and remove the CMU for the opening will definitely be more than if it was a wood framed wall. Not sure how big of an opening you are thinking, but you are probably a few thousand dollars just to cut the opening and install the lintel.
I have a single story ranch rectangular home and on one of the long sides I want to have a large portion knocked out and put up 3 sliding glass doors to fill the house with light.
I of course would have a professional do it, I just want to hear if this is possible or difficult structure/cost wise.
Currently there is vinyl siding over it, which I also assume is easy to get through.
Huge Thanks in advance!
