All nuclear plants are non fail-safe systems, because radioactivity is a natural process, while keeping a reactor cool is a man-made one which is bound to fail sooner or later.
When cooling stops, whatever the reason, they self destruct spewing radioactive material into the air, the soil and the groundwater, contaminating hundreds of miles around and making living conditions impossible.
If we want to reduce our dependency on petroleum, we can do it by installing wind farms. There is enough wind energy to go around the world, several times over.

good. nuclear energy is the power for the 21st century. too bad you have to find reasons why it,s bad. most info about nuc power generation is totally biased toward anything but nuc.
