What is the reason for the energy crisis?

Industrialization and modernization which consume more energy on one hand and lack of infrastructure that generate electricity on the other hand are cause of energy crisis. In simple word, consumption of energy is more than production.

What crisis?

174 petawatts of solar energy falls on the Earth from the Sun and we only use 15 terawatts from all energy sources. The problem is just with how we use energy, we're currently using chemically stored solar energy collected by nature over millions of years, using energy in this way changes the chemical balance of our environment and we are using the energy at a rate far higher than it is gathered. We have alternatives, although our technology does not enable an inexpensive way of gathering solar energy directly, we can easily meet our energy needs by liquid fluoride thorium reactors which is how the Earth's molten interior stays molten, thorium is so plentiful that we can not foreseeably run out of thorium.

There is no technological crisis, we only have a social economic crisis.

Market failure is possible when monopoly manipulation of markets occurs.

A crisis can develop due to industrial actions like union organized strikes and government embargoes.

The cause may be over-consumption, aging infrastructure, choke point disruption or bottlenecks at oil refineries and port facilities that restrict fuel supply.

An emergency may emerge during unusually cold winters due to increased consumption of energy.

Large fluctuations and manipulations in future derivatives can have a substantial impact on price. Large investment banks control 80% of oil derivatives as of May 2012, compared to 30% only a decade ago.

Kuwaiti Oil Minister Hani Hussein stated that "Under the supply and demand theory, oil prices today are not justified," in an interview with Upstream.

Pipeline failures and other accidents may cause minor interruptions to energy supplies.

A crisis could possibly emerge after infrastructure damage from severe weather.

Attacks by terrorists or militia on important infrastructure are a possible problem for energy consumers, with a successful strike on a Middle East facility potentially causing global shortages. Political events, for example, when governments change due to regime change, monarchy collapse, military occupation, and coup may disrupt oil and gas production and create shortages.

Fuel shortage is due to the excess and useless use of the fuels.

A few things:

1. a simple problem of math, exactly what ball 5 said

2. short term profits appealed to people more than the sustained longevity of the country (investing in oil rather than solar and wind a few decades ago)

3. general human indifference to efficiency, we could do much more with what we have if it was utilized thoroughly with minimum waste

4. people are easier to control when they are scared, I'm guessing its not so much a crisis, as much as it is a problem with a time constraint that is quite solvable

I'm sure there could be other reasons one could point to, but those top my list.

We live in a society that is overally reliant on fuel source that are non-renewable and they are in very short supply at the moment causing an energy crisis

production from non renewable resources is limited, whereas the consumption is ever increasing !! we need to tap the renewable energy sources more.

more use of non renewable source of energy

not enough infrastructure/resources for the desired energy output.
