Reduce - limited water and energy usage to the necessity by using energy-efficient and/or environmentally-friendly stuffs.
Reuse - use old stuff rather than buying new, i.e. clothes, furniture, utensils, plastic bottle, buy from 2nd-hand shops, etc.
Recycle - send recyclable item, like paper and cans, for recycling.
Reduce is thought by many to limit the amount of energy you use such as fuel and electricity. But it also applies to reducing waste that you produce by purchasing bulk when you can such as buying 2liter bottles of soda instead of 16oz bottles or detergents and many other products in the same way.
Reuse is finding alternate applications for items such as Plastic Grocery Bags can be used as Kitchen Trash Bags or Used Tires being used for Wall Construction for Rammed-Earth / Earth Ship Homes. 2liter plastic bottles and large Tomato Cans have been used to construct walls around homes as well.
Recycle is the more common of the three in the form of Aluminum Cans, Copper Wiring / Pipes, Newspaper and Glass. More recently, it has included used Cooking Oil from Restaurants into Bio-Diesel.
Collecting Bottles & Cans
A grant to Facilities Management from the California State Department of Conservation has made possible beverage container recycling at UCLA! In January 2000, we began collecting beverage containers at 12 locations throughout campus. Today, there are over sixty locations.
The grant paid for the recycling bins and the students who handle recycling station maintenance. You may recycle your beverage container by placing it into the appropriate bin in the triad cluster marked either "glass," "plastic" or "aluminum."
Triad "cluster" bins throughout the campus are used to recycle your bottles and cans.
Reduce the consumption and usage.
Reuse means use products again and again like paper, cardboard, polythene, glass etc
Recycle means reproduce waste material to make new products like waste paper for cardboard, waste glass to new products etc
reuse and recycle waste management.
