Sorry to tell you this, but there are numerous corporations that make water purification systems, that can take salt water, from the Ocean, and make it pure , and drinkable, now.
Think about this............A cruise ship, with 3000 passengers, and a further 1200 crew members, goes in a three week voyage on the ocean. Where do they get the MILLIONS of gallons of fresh water that they need? The answer..............in the engine room, there is a "water desalination plant " that sucks in ocean water, runs it through a de salting process, purifies it by killing all the bacteria with ultra violet light, and then pumps it through out the entire ship. These can be designed to treat water any where in the world, and a company right here in the Toronto area, in Canada, makes them in a sea board container, that can be shipped anywhere in the world.

They sell to countries, and the United Nations, and the World Health Organisation, as well as the Canadian National Defense Department, and the Canadian Red Cross.

Too many to mention. It all depends on where you're starting from (i.e. do you already have water in a reasonable amount or do you need to extract it from air/soil first, which kinds of contaminants are in there), what kind of energy sources you have available, how much time and space/area you have available, what kind of throughput you need (or want to pay for) and how much (in terms of energy and raw materials) drinkable water is worth to you in the place you are at the moment.
Clear water is already available to anyone on earth -UK taxes for foreign aid ALONE more than pay for this (it's drawn from your salary if you work from the govt or payed in your taxes otherwise) . Even though we seem to raise money annually for African people every year, every decade....

so im trying to enter this science fair.
i have this great idea about providing clean water(i am not going to specific about my idea because i dont want it stolen) im a tenth grader. i actually am good at things like this so dont understimate me. feel free to write all ideas.
the problem here is, that there might already be something that is extremely similar to my idea. it happened to me in past. my idea was already in existence. i dont want to waste time on something only to find out that it is already there and i dont get any credit.
so please list all water purification, and water "extraction" (Ways to get water) that you know of. my idea targets poor countries who need it. for example, one invention already in use is the straw that filters water as you drink. thing of that nature is what i want to know. especially ways to get water
please help.
