Is the account number of a bank entirely unique?

r can two different banks have accounts with the same account number?

When writing/receiving checks, is it enough to have the account number mentioned without needing to write the name of the bank? (worldwide)

You always need a Routing Number (which tells the bank) and the Account Number (which links up with your account). The account number might be the same at multiple banks, which is why you need both numbers to process this.

yes, quite unique

on a cheque, the account number the first 5 digits is the branch number. there's no bank has the same branch number

Each Bank has their own numbers ( routing ) Two different accounts with the same Bank will have the same routing number ( first number left side on account ) but different account number ( number on the right ) Always write the name of the bank especially worldwide.

I don't see the point of your question. You don't "write and receive" checks to a bank account - you write them to individuals or organizations. You "receive them" (deposit them) in YOUR bank account.
