Do NOT buy a one bedroom house. Almost nobody will want to buy it from you. Get a 3 bedroom, at least. Then you have a big(ger) den and a storage room until the kids come along. Forget the inground pool.
If you build up some savings first, then it is doable in most parts of the country. {I would expect your wife to be working for a few years, too.}
Depends where. Housing is all location. This house in Manhattan doesn't even exist, and if it did, it would be in the millions. And you can buy a whole house in Detroit for $1, but then you live in Detroit.
