How should I spend $4,500?

Should I spend $3200 to get out of credit card debt, or $4,500 on a well maintained vehicle? (All I care for is A/C, radio, and A to B). I am making roughly $3000 a month, with about $1000 bills. I have no car, but a solid ride to work, and most of the time I find a way home. All via family members. My work is about 2 miles away.

$4500 for a car, even if "well maintained", is not a good buy if you are looking for a reliable car. It may be running good now, but it's probably old enough that things are going to start going bad just from normal wear and tear. Even if well maintained, parts still have a life span and fail. They don't last forever. The maintenance is still good as it reduces the chances of early failure of the parts, but it's not going to stop the parts from failing eventually.

Pay off the credit card debt. This will save you money in the long run as you will not have the interest to pay. It also will help improve your credit score, which will help you get an auto loan for a car later on, and get something better than a $4500 car.

$3200 x 2% per month = $64 wasted on interest. For that price, you could use a taxicab when you cannot get a ride or walk. {So pay the debt.} Then when you consider (say) $100 a month for insurance is a non-performing expense, keep finding your way home with relatives, - and be generous with the gas money.

Avoid a car as long as possible. They suck money bigtime.

Getting down the credit car debt would improve your credit r which might allow to get a lower interest car loan, I don't know your weather but sounds like a bike or motor scooter can be your work transport backup.

2 miles? Damn you are lucky, why not just walk it? I don't care how cold/warm, I understand when its raining you'd need a ride but other than that, get rid of the debt
