World Solar Power Topped 100,000 Megawatts in 2012.
That is still less than 1% of all electric power in the world, but look how that graph is trending up. I extrapolated that if it keeps that up we could end up with 100% of electricity being solar in less than 15 years. Of source it won't keep trending up that much, but I can easily see it being 20% of world total in 10 years.
Global capacity for solar energy production reached 39.8 Gigawatts (0.0398 terawatts) . Here are the top 10 solar energy producing countries in the world:
- Germany (9,785 MW)
- Spain (3,386 MW)
- Japan (2,633 MW)
- United States (1,650 MW)
- Italy (1,167 MW)
- Czech Republic (465 MW)
- Belgium (363 MW)
- China (305 MW)
- France (272 MW)
- India (120 MW)
About 65 gigawatts per the International Energy Agency:

This is not answer to question but it's important point from many perspective:
Only recently solar panels produce more energy than it takes to make them:

I would prefer for the answer to come from HowStuffWorks or BrainPOP. However, if the answer can't be found on those websites, it will be okay to use other sources.
