- We have more space, because the landfills do not keep growing when we recycle instead of trashing things.
- We can have more things, because every resource runs out eventually (or takes a while to replenish).
There are two primary ways recycling helps the future.
First, recycling reduces the rate at which we are consuming our natural resources. While some natural resources are renewable (like trees), there is a finite supply of most of the resources we consume each year. By consuming these resources more slowly, we will reduce the amount of pollution created and energy required to find, collect, and process these resources into products. Perhaps even more importantly, slowing the rate at which we are exhausting these precious natural resources will give us more time to find, develop, and perfect alternatives that are cleaner and more sustainable.
Second, recycling helps minimize soil, air, and water contamination that would be caused by improperly disposing of chemicals and other harmful items. Improperly disposing of used motor oil, technology products, batteries, household chemicals and the like can lead to shortages of clean soil, air, and water. That would render an increasing amount of these very necessities of life to be unusable and toxic. Attempting to clean up this mess in the future would be a huge undertaking that is prohibitive, costly, and perhaps even impossible.
Also, while recycling is indeed important you ensuring a healthy and comfortable future, don't forget to practice the most desirable of the 3 R's whenever possible: reduce. It is a great and noble act to correctly handle and dispose of things that can be recycled, but it is even better if we find ways to prevent the resources from being expended in the first place.
When materials are recycled, the need to mine and the resources required to refine new materials are diminished. Consider for example, aluminum cans. According to Earth 911, we can make twenty recycled cans using 95% less energy than what it takes to make one brand new cans.
Since less energy is used, businesses can purchase materials at a lower cost. When businesses can spend less to produce a product, the price you pay at the store could go down or the business can hire more people or the business can invest the savings in better innovations. Long-term, this helps the economy because more people are employable. Better innovations means more advanced technology to assist your daily life.
The environmental benefits are endless, and if you're looking for a great source as to what those are, have a look at Earth911's website. Have a great day.
we are running out of raw materials and have to recycle what we have.
recycling will help our future in progressing in better way. have less economy problems.
and also have more sales in the stores. :)
Instead of tossing everything we don't need anymore into a giant landfill, we are reusing it. This cuts down on our need for petroleum (to make plastic) and wood (for cardboard/paper/etc). This allows less material being thrown into the garbage dumps and less clear cutting of the world's forests (which provide a good portion of the world's oxygen). So yes, it really is helping the future.
