How can I recycle old clothing?

Cut the buttons and zippers off, cut them up and you have shop rags. Plenty of businesses use shop rags.

Insulation needs to be fireproofed so that's not a good option.

Throwing into a landfill isn't a bad thing, it sequesters the carbon indefinitely. We've been unearthing carbon from the ground through fossil fuels so returning some back to the ground would be a good thing.

Back in the 50's, when I was a kid and dinosaurs still roamed the earth, we cut up old clothes into rags and used rags for dusting, mopping the floor, cleaning up spills, etc. All the things most people use a paper towel for now? We used rags. They went right in the washing machine in a mesh bag if they got too icky. We always had a clean rag bag and a dirty rag bag hanging in the back hall in the broom closet.

The usual final duty for rags, at least at our house, was wiping up during painting and cleaning the brushes afterwards.

Alternatively, call Goodwill or your local thrift shops and see if they can accept clothing to be sold as rags. In many parts, unsaleable clothing is sorted by fiber content and sold by the pound. http://www.smartasn.org/consumers/index....

You have to list your area. Mattress companies buy from thrift stores by the pound and the human society uses shirts especially babies onesies to keep the dogs warm. in the future stick with biodegradable clothing like cotton which will turn back into the earth.

Ok don't worry If you do not have time just give your old clothes to some boutiques they make beautiful dress from this or give it to some mattress making company they make proper use of your clothes.

You can use them as cloth for your house when you clean, for cleaning your tables and glass.

If the clothes has at least any bit of acceptance you should think of donating it to the poor

Goodwill and Salvation Army they will pass on what they don't need. People make quilts out of old clothes sometimes

you can take it to thrift stores or the salvation army. and some thrift stores buy your clothes too.

I have several items of clothing that are WAY past prime condition. By anyone's standards this clothing is trash. But I don't want to just throw all of them away if I don't have to. I am not crafty in anyway; nor do I have the time or patience to make cute projects out of old fabric. I just wanted to know if there was some company that takes old, tired clothing and recycling it into insulation, or something some useful then a landfill.
