Can I skip work to protest?

You have the right to protest, but you can be fired if you skip work without permission.

Even in the unlikely case that your manager agrees with your protest, he would almost certainly fire you. A better plan would be to claim illness, but if you get shown in a news broadcast at the protest and the manager hears about it, you will be fired anyway.

You can certainly go on the protest, and your manager can certainly fire you when you get back.

It you want.

Who is going to do your job while you are "protesting" and who is going to pay you? Take a day's holiday if you must protest.

You will be fired. What rights?

UK

Using the word "right" in that context is popular but improper. Yes, you have the right to go. And your employer would then have the right to fire you. He's under no legal obligation to allow you to go.

no, you have do not right to skip work

unless you're lucky enough to have personal days, then take one

or maybe there is someone you can trade shifts with

you could always ask your manager, and if he says no, then don't go

but you don't have the "right" to skip work and go

Go ahead....but just don't "protest" when they fire you

I want to attend a protest but unfortunately I have work on the same day of the protest.

I feel very strongly towards this protest and I want to know if I have the right to miss work

to go to a protest? obviously, I would call my manager and let him know why I want to skip work.
