Bank Error, shouldn't I charge a fee?

Today I found out that my bank put a $21k hold on my bank account. I don't have close to that in there. I immediately went to the bank and they basically said, "oops, my bad" and they took the hold off. But for a minute there, it was pretty scary. Also, I had to leave work to deal with it. Shouldn't they have to pay me $30 like I have to do every time I overdraw my account or something? Seriously, do they owe me anything?

When you opened your account, you signed a contract agreeing to the overdraft fee. The contract probably did not say the bank has to pay a fee for mistakes.

If you can prove that the mistake hurt you - for example, if the hold prevented you from paying bills and you got charged a late fee - then you can sue the bank. You won't get anything for taking time off work if this could have been fixed by phone.

Charge them anything you want. See how quickly they pay.

Why did you have to leave work to deal with this?? Why didn't you just call them??

Nope. No real harm was done here. If you bounced a check because of this mistake, they would be responsible for that. But this is just a pretty annoying mistake.

Drop that bank.

They should. They won't though.

lol. You forgot the golden rule. He with the gold (the bank), rules.

seriously. no
