What kind of spider is this? Is it poisonous or what?

This is NOT a brown recluse. This is a female southern house spider,(hard to tell when they are young) and they are as harmless as spiders come. You can tell these by their long pedipalps and white bands at the trochanter.(where the legs attach to the body)

I not only keep these for pets(many people do) I had one behind my nightstand next to my bed for years, and was never a nuisance.(save for a messy web)

It is unusual for females to ever leave their web, unless they are driven out. May be the case with your little friend.

For the size of spider, their fangs are very tiny, and they are just not known to bite, even playing with them.

If you have these, they are the best house spider you can have about, they eat a lot of pest bugs.

Here is the mama to my bedroom pet:

No spiders are poisonous, but nearly all are venomous. Yours looks like a brown recluse. Don't let them hang around.
