What is the cheapest way to replace carpet?

You could give the old carpet a good cleaning/sweeping first..then buy a large sisal indoor/outdoor Matt to lay over the carpet, for extra cushion. As for the spots where the baseboard is chewed up..you can use the outdoor flower border picket fence sections to set in front of it, covering it. Then, on the wall, paint a mural, or stick on stencils of flowers/shrubs/grass behind the section of fence.

I am looking to replacing our bedroom carpet this summer. I will go with some kind of laminate or tile that looks like wood. Carpet is fine at first, then it stretches and gets filthy. The first step is to get a good utility knife and cut the carpet up into small sections. Pull it up, roll it up, and discard. Then pull up the nail strips. Then pull up any nails or tacks in the floor. This is labor intensive, but two people could pull up the carpet in an average bedroom in half a day. Sweep or thoroughly vacuum. Measure the dimensions of your room. Go to the home improvement stores and look at all of the options. They will show you how to lay down a new floor if you plan to do it yourself and tell how much you need. Most come now with a rubber membrane that covers floor imperfections.Look for closeouts or on sale. Also look for outlet stores that specialize in floor coverings. Most people are doing this themselves. This usually requires just regular hand tools. One more advice: It pays to purchase couple of extra boxes so you will have some to replace future damage or scratches.

Inexpensive/cheapest way to replace flooring?

I have carpet in my bedroom that's needs to be replace because my parents house is being put on the market. I have a budget and want to be able to replace it with something that won't hurt my bank account(college student with not so good paying job). I know labor and installation is where it gets expensive. What type of flooring could I get or grade of carpet? Where should I buy and who should install it?

I also need the parts of the baseboreds done(chewed on) but could that be a DIY job? Not be but someone who has done it before.

Thank you.
