Very Soft Memory Foam Mattress?

It is definitely a lot easier to soften a firm mattress than to do the reverse... there are a few things you can try, though. First of all, the mattress should be on a firm foundation. Many people find that their memory foam mattress is more comfortable when it is placed on the floor or on a solid platform, but since these options don't allow the mattress to breathe I would recommend a slatted platform (if it's not on one already). There are some great ones on this website: http://www.lifekind.com/index.php/site_c...

My next suggestion would be to flip your mattress over... if it has multiple layers or ridges on the surface, then the "bottom" side of the mattress may feel more firm. As G said, you can also try putting a firmer pillow-top on the mattress. Be cautious about picking it, though, since most pillow-tops are designed to add softness to the mattress. Lastly, using a tight-fitting mattress pad can help firm up your mattress, at least a little bit.

If it really isn't comfortable, you could always post it on craigslist just to find out what you can get for it. Selling it while it is still barely used may be better than sinking money into mattress accessories if in the end it still will not work for you.

Mattress toppers are a great way to turn a crappy mattress into a descent one. Making it firm enough for you may be tough, but it's worth a shot. Perhaps a sheet of leatherette and then the topper. Selling it for probably next to nothing is only a little better than throwing it away.

Hi Guys,

I ordered a memory foam mattress from overstock and it softer than i expected. From product description i thought it was firm. I check with overstock about return policy and they stated that memory foam mattress can't be returned. I am screwed as i dislike soft foams and can't throw out. (I don't know if i could sell it on craigslist etc )

Can i use some kind of firm mattress topper on top of it to make it firm? Any other ideas?

Regards
