Why does my filtered water have black flecks and smell like eggs?

It's safe. The black flecks are iron from the high mineral content of your water and the egg smell is sulfur, also from dissolved minerals. The chlorine takes care of dangerous bacteria. I think maybe your dad should change the faucet filter and clean out the screen on the end of the tap, which would probably help.

Update: If you smell the chlorine, you don't need to boil for safety. But I would change the filter.

The "egg" smell is hydrogen sulfide, not sulphur.

This can occur naturally quite frequently and is not harmful, but it's odor is less than pleasing.

we have a faucet for drinking water. My dad says it has gone through a filter but it smells like eggs and has little black flecks in it. Today it kinda smells like chlorine. Our regular tap dosent have these problems

Do you think its safe to drink?

thanks
