Someone asked me to install pergo floor for them, but I don't have a contractors license (I'm in CA). Am I legal

The home owner must know that you are not licensed. And he must understand that he is responsible for the job if he hires you. It is legal, but it makes him the general contractor, not you.

Someone had mentioned their washing machine flooded the floor (a hallway and half a room) and now needs to replace some pergo. I just happened to overhear and recommended he dry the subfloor before putting in the new. He asked me if I'd do the work. He doesn't want to rip out the damaged floor until the day of the install, which is in 3 days. I've only worked for a flooring installer as a laborer and while I've installed the stuff many times, I dont have a license and don't know what my options are. I mean, It's just installing pergo right? He asked me to provide a bid for my labor. Any insight into the law/options/concerns is greatly appreciated
