Polyurethane on painted furniture?

Sand with 220 grit paper then mineral oil to clean. Then recoat paint if necessary. Let dry for a week. Dampen cloth with mineral oil and clean surfaces. If you want an excellent hard gloss finish, go to Rockler.com and get sealer and top coat.

I used this on a piece of stained oak for a shelf in my kitchen and the stuff is awesome. You need to be very good on dust control when using this and you wipe in on and off so the dust problem is minimal compared to brushing.

Perhaps you sealed it before the white gloss paint was totally dry.You should not be getting white residue after applying sealer to the painted surface. Start by sanding (no rougher than 120 grit sandpaper) until the surface is totally smooth.

Everything I have read about painting wood furniture says to use polyurethane. Zinnser brand seems to be very popular. http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog... It comes in gloss too.

Sanding is better option... It will be long lasting and make it smooth.

I have an old vanity that had veneer wood over it and it started chipping off. So I sanded it down and re painted it, I used white gloss spray paint to do it and then a sealant over it. After it dried I noticed it felt a little rough.. Like if you took a wet rag and wiped it you'd get white residue. I wanted a very shiny smooth finish and to not be afraid of sitting things on my vanity, but do not know how to get it or what is good over white spray paint. Polyurethane? French polish? I want it to feel brand new and not feel like I have to be careful. Help?
