Pet friendly ADT alarm system?

Posted at: 2014-09-26
I have motion sensors & they are set to detect motion from bodies over 50 pounds.

I have 2 small dogs approx. 30 pounds combined weight--who think they are cats & are constantly jumping up on furniture & sitting on the backs of chairs & sofas & chasing & wrestling with each other when the mood strikes them. they have never set off the alarm. (however I have set off the motion detector when I accidently set it for leaving when I was staying & got up in the middle of the night to walk through the living room)

they should have an instruction manual for your system on their website. (they use multiple systems & the systems vary by location & year installed--so you'll need to know what system they installed in your home) if they don't then you should be able to do an internet search for the instruction manual online. the instruction manual should tell you how to make adjustments

worst case scenario, you should be able to set your alarm without setting the motion detector. on my system when I set it for me being home, the motion detector isn't activated but the doors & windows are. so you can still set your alarm when you leave if you're worried that the cat will set off the motion detector.

Hi,

I recently had an ADT alarm system fitted to my house, this included two 'pet friendly' motion detectors. The sales man told us in his own words 'unless you have a Tiger your cats will not set off you alarm, as it detects size'. When the installation guy came over he told me a completely different story and said that if your cats jump on ANYTHING (which is normal and regular behaviour for cats and everyone knows this!) they will set it off! As a consequence I am VERY annoyed and feel that we have been completely miss-sold the alarm, had we known at the point of the 'sales talk' we would not have taken out the alarm in the first place as I haven't wanted to switch it on at all in fear of it being set off in the middle of the day when we are at work or in the middle of the night and waking us and our nieghbours up! Has anyone had this same alarm fitted who own cats or even dogs? I 'd like to know if they will actually set it off or off and is there anything I can do to alter the sensors, can they be adjusted at all?

Thanks!

Kirsty
