Need Suggestions to Overhaul this Hideous Place?

I do wish people would stop slagging trailers. I live in one and like it. I'll be in it until I can no longer live on my own or unless an earthquake destroys it. My last house was custom-built by me, for comparison's sake, and I am just as happy in this trailer as I was in that house. I saved money, too, buying a trailer. $100,000 to $150,000, compared to the price of the same size property in the same area with a stick-built house on it.

The decorating that comes with trailers, however, is not the greatest unless you are ordering a new one and can choose. Mine had burgundy in it too. That said, I have certainly seen stick-built houses with decorating equally appalling and even worse.

Paint it off-white, an off-white that goes with that dark wood which you had better not touch, covering as much of the burgundy as you can. I have to assume the burgundy is paint, not the vinyl wallpaper that usually comes with trailers. If it is vinyl wallpaper, as that patterned wall may well be, you have to use a very good primer intended to stick to vinyl and then you can use regular wall paint. Get some different coloured drapes, if you have to have any drapes at all in that location. What's wrong with the carpet? Looks fine to me. Is it the green carpet you don't like? I think the main problem with it is that it clashes very badly with the burgundy. See what you think after getting rid of the burgundy. You can probably live with it. I can't tell if it's green carpet in the living room or not.

If they will let you take out the bathroom carpet(bad idea, carpet in a bathroom) then the best thing to replace it with is vinyl planks or tiles, self-adhesive ones. I do not mean peel 'n 'stick tiles. The kind I mean stick to themselves but not the floor. Trafficmaster Allure from Home Depot is the kind I have. Not expensive, very easy to install, and the only thing you really have to make sure of is that your floor is perfectly smooth. I have the stuff in most of my rooms and it's quite satisfactory.

I'd get rid of those godawful mirrors in the bathroom, the ones with the little squares, if you can. Those really are bad.

On the other hand, you're only going to be there for six months. Do you really want to spend a week of those six month re-decorating?

I agree with Mark T. Why can't you leave things alone? You're not living there but for 6 months. Besides, you're supposed to be saving your money for your "next stage of life".

Don't waste your money on anothers property.

Looks just fine to me.

Hello! I just graduated college, and my friend is letting me rent out her trailer (classy, I know) for the next six months to save up and prepare for the next stage of life. Just saw the place for the first time today, and to say it's hideous is an understatement. A blast from the past. I love the 80s, but Holy God. They're allowing me to paint or wallpaper the walls, but I have the feeling that atrocious carpet (including the carpet in the BATHROOM) will have to stay…it's only for six months, I'm sure I'll find a way to cope. Anyway, what are your suggestions for paint colors and overall ideas on how to make the place look less hideous? Thanks in advance! P.S. I included a collage of photos. :)
