How to secure rail on garage wall, without taking it down?

I'll say don't bother with the anchors. If you've got five screws going decently deep into studs, that's incredibly strong. That's every available stud (16 inch centers) in six feet.

If you can lift a tool onto the hooks, that rail will support it. It would probably support a refrigerator! Drywall anchors won't add much strength. Don't waste your time.

I probably already know the answer but... I hung a rail on the wall in my garage. It's about 6 feet long but I realized after I hung it I did not provide enough support. I have probably 5 screws that are anchored in a stud, but after re-reading the instructions the next day, I realized I was supposed to also use 4 other screws that should go into the drywall with anchors. (The instructions were confusing and it sounded like it was an either/or kind of thing...either you went into studs or you went in to drywall and used the anchors) Now I would like to provide more support but I really don't want to have to take the rail down to put in the anchors. (It was super hard for me to keep it level and install the screws at the same time) There are plenty of holes in the rail that I could drill into, but I couldn't get the anchor in there. Are there any options for securing it better without taking the rail down and starting over?

The wall or the rail ? Mounting brackets for hand rails are very simple to attach with the rail in place.

your problem is your mollies (anchors) must go in prior to mounting an easier fix is to install more screws in the studs a much better fastening system than anchors
