Any advice on getting an interior design internship/job?

If you were to walk in, you might catch them off guard. They might be in the middle of a big project, or the person you need to talk to might not be available.

Don't send an email. Emails are too easy; if you send a letter, you'll show that you put more thought and effort into it and didn't just write them on a whim.

Send a letter. Give them your phone number and email address in the letter. Wait at least a week to give them time to look over your proposal. If you don't hear back, give them a call or email and ask if you can schedule a time to come by to discuss your school's co-op program in person.

Hello,

I'm sixteen years old and I'm 100% positive that I'm going to be an interior designer when I'm older. I've done loads of research and I just know that it's what I want to do. I am DYING to get my foot in the door at an interior design firm. Unfortunately there are not any big ones within a reasonable distance, but there are lots of small ones.

I realize that most interior designers are looking for someone college aged and not in high school. I really feel that I can do well assisting a designer though. I have a car and plenty of gas money so I can run errands and do the "monkey work". I realize that as a bottom of the totem pole assistant I would be doing the "dirty work" but I really don't care! You gotta start somewhere, right?

Also, my school has a CO-OP program where if you find a job that pertains to what you're aspiring to do you can take time from your school day to do it. And the best part is it counts for credits!

So, back to my question. Does anyone have any advice for getting a designer to consider me? I realize my age is kind of a turn off but I am a hard worker.

How should I go about asking? Should I write a letter or email? Or should I just go right in?

THANK YOU!(:
