technically you can live off $0 a year. the question is how comfortably you can live off of what you earn taking into account your expenses; and expenses are largely determined by the cost of living wherever it is that you live i.e. 30k a year might be good in middle of Kentucky in a small town but in a big city like New York, Chicago, L.A. you are barely going to be able to pay rent with 30k per year. So it really all depends.

But just in general, 25-30k is going to be on the low end of salary and i would find it difficult for most people to be able to pay bills and still have some money left over for leisure and savings.

Edit: taking into account what you have said in your updates; Yes, i think you should be ok as long as you seriously pinch pennies. and if you have the ability to move up and make more money in the future then you should be ok. Not having much debt is a very good thing. Get that car paid off asap. good luck
