Why am i being drawn to the North?

JohnW Sweden only really has an eastern and southern coastline. the Gulf of Bothnia is frozen solid at least 4 months of the year and cities like Umea Lulea and Kiruna get down to -41 deg c in the winter, with one hour daylight in December. They're all waaaaay further north than Winnipeg. My friend did his special forces training up there (to elude/combat Spetznaz). one quarter on Sweden is absolute wilderness and Lapland is Europe's most sparsely populated area.

As Sweden is basically coastal, it's really not that harsh a winter nor is it particularly wilderness or is it far from technology. For harsh, try somewhere inland such as in Winnipeg Canada, The True North strong and free! Stockholm is a beautiful city and a good winter makes you appreciate the summers better.

i have felt different things like that and I felt it was in my genes. I think my ancestors lived in places like that and some how it is in me to like the things that they did and feel more comfortable in a place that they lived in and since they made me I have the same genes and the things I see and like are things that they lived through. I have been to places I didn't like and came home and said I hated it there and someone said your grandfather hated it there to. today people have for rent signs and for sale signs every where and buy one get one free and everyone has to be more successful than the other guy and who ever dies with the most toys wins. it seems that when you start you want to get out and compete in the world to succeed and then you feel your caught up in a tornado of bills and rush hours and trying to live your life by a programmed schedule and the way you thought you should be is not the way you really wanted to be in your heart

You've been eating far too many iron filing sandwiches - this is the reason you are being attracted to the magnetic north pole.

If you really must find somewhere far away from civilisation head for the north of Russia and try living in the tundra - nearest town 800+ miles away - no mobile phone signal and no TV etc. It's you against Mother Nature at her meanest edge.

And if you do go there, watch out for giants.

Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum etc.

head south fight the urge.

Sweden as opposed to cold parts of China or Russia. I wonder why???

I have lived in Asia for some years. I live in a congested and hot city. Over the past few weeks something is pulling me to up sticks and leave and head towards the arctic circle, I am focused on Sweden. I know its a very harsh environment for 4 or 5 months a year and I have lived through some rough European winters, but something in me is telling me to go there and face up to the wilderness away from all the superficiality of the modern age which surrounds me (not forever and with my wife and kid). Its not just a hankering its like I must go there...anyone else ever felt this kind of compulsion???
