How Much Energy Will I Save by using solar power....?

First, go here http://rredc.nrel.gov/solar/old_data/nsr... , which is a map of how much sun various areas in the US get. (I'm making a big assumption that you are in the US.) Select, Average, Annual, Flat Plate Tilted South at Latitude. Then find your area on the map. This will reflect the equivalent hours of bright noonday sun in your area. It will be much less than the actual number of hours that the sun shines. That's expected.

So suppose your area gets 5 hours of sun per day. That works out to about 1800 hours per year. That means that for every 1 kW of solar panels you put up, you will get, on average, 1800 kWh of energy per year. If you put up a 5 kW array, you can expect to get 9000 kWh per year.

But the real question is, would that be worth it? That depends on how much it would cost to put up that array, vs. your cost savings, which depends on the local price for that annual amount of electricity. Only you can fill in those numbers.

It depends on the size of the system.

However, if you get out your calculator and figure out the total cost of the system, installation, and maintenance and divide by the power it will generate over the lifespan (Please don't forget that the solar panel efficiency will degrade each day and reach about 80% in to years), you will discover that you are paying about twice the amount for the power as compared to purchasing it off the grid. In addition, all of the money is up front so you also loose from an investment perspective.

Or you can believe the marketing above... It's not hard to do the research with the internet...

It depends on various factors. Where you live can effect how much sunlight you get. Also, how many solar panels you put up. It will save you A LOT of money in the long run. It lowers your electric bill AND if you have power left over after powering your house, your electric meter runs backwards and the power company pays you! You can probably get tax reductions as well. Good luck.

You could save ALL OF IT!

Our company has helped well over 100 homeowners and small businesses to "declare independence" from the grid. Some buyers save a small portion of their usage, and some save well over 100%, as in, they send a lot of power back to the grid and build up a credit. It really depends on your budget, available roof space or ground area, available sun at your location, and so on.

These systems often pay for themselves in 10 years or less.

I would recommend having a professional visit your site and analyze your situation to determine exactly what your savings would be. If you are in the Northeast US, contact my company! See the website link below.
