I compost the grass cuttings from my neighbours garden, so they don't need to drive to the tip.
My car was built in 1968, I maintain it myself and do not intend to buy another. Meanwhile my neighbour has owned (and scrapped) 3 in the last 5 years. I have replaced the engine with a more efficient one, and sold most parts of the old one to repair others.
I only use it once a week or for appointments.
I use jute bags for shopping, and use the free charity bags posted to me for refuse. Otherwise they would go in the bin anyway as I don't buy enough to give away to charity. All my worn out clothes get used as rags for cleaning.
I have trained my self to repair electronic items, and only buy broken items that I need. This prevents them from being destroyed and brings them back to life. This saves resources.
I also pick up litter if I can see a bin nearby.
Then the recycling is dine in china- all those boast going to there and how much is actually recoverd. I recycle metals for exapmple- but along comes the cart and its about 25 years old and pouring out diesel smoke - but recycling can use as much energy than to make from new- But Nuclear Power should be more brought in. I note that some dont do enough to keep their gas/[ower use down- heating on 24 hrs a day- when an extra jumper would suffice. I note a family who live near my former house collect cardboard and wood from skips etc and burn that in a furnace/stove- that with a solar powered fan uses little fuel and burns the fuel down to nothing- it makes a good garden weed barrier! They pay no gas or power for cooking or heating-back boiler for central heating /water heating- and use solar power to offset any electricity they have to use- and he put up the panels himself and I understand that even in winter they use very little off the grid- low wattage bulbs and completely switching off tvs etc when not in use. I beleive his power bill was below £30 pounds for the whole year!!
There are lots of government and non government organisations who are taking steps to save the environment, but we normal people escapes from the responsibilities from saving the environment, it can start from your home, and not only it will save environment but also save your energy bill, following are the common stuffs that can be done in our home:
1.Use Less Energy Than You Currently Do
2.Switch to LED Lighting
3.Install a Roof Ventilation System
4.Think About Installing Solar Panels
I need a car - a live in the suburbs and must drive to work. But my car is an energy-efficient compact car. Makes me sick to see people driving SUV's or huge never-seen-dirt pickup trucks to go shopping or go to work with just one person in it. Such an energy waste.
I re-use grocery store bags for trash.
Almost all books I buy are now ebooks.
We have been replacing our lightbulbs with energy efficient LED lightbulbs and dimmable fluorescents for ones we need to dim.
We each only do one clothes wash per week.
same except ebooks and car which I don't drive. With books you're looking at it wrong. They don't clear forests to make paper. They plant trees for the paper. More paper that is sold the more trees get planted. It's the same with timbre.
As a part of environment protection I will try to do the recycle methods, minimum use of resource available here, Showing stop signal for the plastic products etc
:)
use every possible edible cleaned part of vegetables so that i have very little household waste and reuse bought food containers for storage and growing of seeds/plants so that i can live without weekly refuse collection and still not be overcome by health risks or pollute the environment if the refuse collection is restricted by strike or council action.
I don't have kids. That is better than all y'all can do to help the environment.

I do best ever product to utilize our environment for long lasting term and accept what ever to do with environment term.
Moderately conserve what I have, and maintain that. More or less but always present.
I live in it and am part of the ecosystem.
