Is wind power or nuclear energy safer?

please say why and explain in simple English haha im quiet dumb, thankyou :)

What do you think?

Wind Power is only considered dangerous to birds, or the occasional maintenance dangers to workers. As a solar powered energy source (the sun powers wind forces), it is very clean. As a result, very few pollutants are released to the environment (again, except for the Turbine's creation, installation, and maintenance).

Nuclear energy is different. It uses nuclear processes to create energy, and most (other than a new innovation) have a potential for a complete nuclear meltdown. These release massive amounts of radiation to the surrounding environment, which scar the land for years. Nuclear plants are also more hazardous to operate, due to radiation leaks, fires, and explosions. Nuclear waste typically has a long half-life, so it stays in the environment for hundreds of years as hazardous radioactive waste. Radiation clean-up is just as hazardous.

It should be fairly obvious which one is safer.

Well, let's establish that "safer" means less people dying. The three "nuclear disasters" are Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima. Only Chernobyl has caused any deaths and, as the previous poster pointed out, it was only 56. A nuclear power plant sits on less than 1 square mile and can produce up to 1400 megawatts per hour all day, every day for more than a year with a 90 to 95% online percentage. Even the best windmill produces about 5 megawatts and you can only fit a handful on a square mile and they only produce power about 15 to 20% of the time and most of that time it isn't even maximum power.

Windmills are hundreds of meters in the air. Far too many maintenance people have been injured or killed falling from these machines. As summarized on this page: http://www.inquisitr.com/18588/wind-powe... windmills are very dangerous. Not only for the people who have to install and maintain them, but also for innocent people who are nearby.

I admit I'm a little biased because I'm a nuclear engineer, but I'm also concerned with the truth. And in my opinion, wind power is a pathetic excuse for baseload power. There are certain applications where it is appropriate, but relying on them for our industries and hospitals is just lunacy.

Well... wind is safer, but it's not going to get the same job done as Nuclear. Are roller skates a better form of transportation than Air Craft?

Wind power has had 1500 accidents in the past 5 years (couldn't find death statistics).

Nuclear has had 3 "disasters" over the past 35 years

-Fukushima - 0 deaths

-3-Mile Island - 0 deaths

-Chernobyl - 56 deaths

Contamination from nuclear power is toxic for tens of THOUSANDS of years. Nuclear power plants operate under high pressures to convert heat to electricity. Something, sooner or later, with all that high-pressure will give. ((An alternative is the thorium reactor - which does not operate under pressure and is much safer.) Wind is a passive energy producing system, has few moving parts, doesn't involve chemical or nuclear reactions...

I, and millions others, vote WIND!

wind nuclear power amettes bad thinges in the air

Wind is safer because it can't explode...

Also wind doesn't put off radiation.

Hope this helped

wind power is more safe, but technology just have to improve just a bit.
