Cut up your credit card and put a lower limit on your debit card. Create a budget... set aside all mandatory pay for rent, TV, etc in an account you can't access with your normal debit card and pay those as soon as you have the money for them. Also set up a saving account and put the money in it right away. Then whatever you have left at the end of that is for spending. This way you can't spend more than you have. Credit is a bad thing for anyone who can't manage their money so don't use it until you are have better spending habits. Only when you can spend within your means should you be willing to use credit cards. And if you spend too much on clothes and don't have gas money to get to work then you walk or bike... this will inforce in yourself that what you have is your limit.
The US Dept of Statistics said recently that if you don't earn $40,000 or more then you're spending beyond your means today. I suspect you probably couldn't afford yourself before and still can't now.
Earning money gives you that elated feeling. I remember that I used to spend $1,000 on clothes per years (and paid thru the nose on it where interest was concerend and minimum payments because I felt like I was earning more than I really did. So what you need to do (as I did) was get a grip.
You need a budget, need to see where your money is going, know what you can and can't afford, and only buy necessities.
The problem I had was that I had no place (other than work) to wear the clothes I bought. So if you're spending more than $1,000 on clothes and especially if you were charging them then you need to change that.
ALWAYS pay your rent in full and buy food and pay for your car. The rest, if you're in trouble, well let the collectors keep calling. My internet is $17.95 and I have dialup. Sure I can't get u-tube but so what, I can still get what's important. Of course if you're getting cable then you need to cancel that.
You need to work full time so get a second part-time job. Depends on your situation too and what you can or like to do, as you can babysit, can walk dogs, can work for an agency that helps seniors, etc.
When you see something in the store that you want to buy, leave it on the shelf and walk away. That's all you have to do. Walk away. Do this enough times, you will have a bunch of money saved up, maybe to take a dream vacation or use as a down payment on a house.
Just like any addiction
Quit cold turkey using will power
Do not go to the stores nor go online. Put your credit cards away
You need a written budget.
