If an industrial area of a township puts off so much greenhouse gas that government laid down sanctions that were like putting a freeway up on stilts so wildlife can pass under it at any specimen's will or want, then many of the companies that own these industrial facilities may pack up and go elsewhere, leaving thousands of your local area jobless, and a freeway still flat on a floor.. I have witnessed the turmoil of companies of as few as twenty workers become jobless, their worksites declared wasteland, their employers divest from the richness of a societies productive capacity. Such radical upheaval of economic staying power clearly must be worth it for a people's government body to see to it that gases do not emit as they did even if it means shattering the stable support of twenty nuclear families (mom, dad, and their kids) leaving 12 divorces, 9 moveouts, 17 more homeless/welfare dependents of 3-5 year persistence, 29 increases in learning problems of children, 18 increases in medical costs amounting to over 5.8 million dollars, upon deferment of social vestitures of yet undeterminated economic cost, etc. It really is just the broken homes I hurt to have seen them become when I cannot feel that would have come to pass and be broken if the area still was working on that gas problem.
Wow, and you just wanted help to sort more garbage! Well this is it. Take your time.
It may turn out that in a place not all that too far from here the gases are being emitted at 150 times the rate they were here, just to provide the task of which was provided when those businesses that performed them resided here.
I hope you can see a problem that environmentalists like you and I, and industrialists like you and I, need to understand to make a living and feel good about it...so that we can go home when the work day is done and hold down the fort and eat lasagna, spruce and do some algebra.
We are all part of the government in a democracy---most of us together in the administrative chair positions that can override the executive in a lear jet, influence a police chief and 3 circuit judges by what their neighbor's children do for fun, and write any sort of bill that we damn well elect to do and not get paid butt for it but as the wholesome entertainment it gives the neighbor's kids in doing so. I am being figurative. The point is we can't blame it on government nor can we blame it on fear of the families that are owners of the business that was sold and/or moved. Perhaps identification of what IS local environment is important. Thanks guy.
Wow researching about this actually helped me learn much more about helping the environment! You would think that you are doing your part well on staying green, but in this website I found, there are way more you could do! The few things include:
Change your light
Don't Rinse
Do not pre-heat oven
recycle glass
Hang dry
Go vegetarian once a week
wash in cold or warm
use one less paper napkin
use both sides of paper
recycle newspaper
brush without running
shower with your partner- in the website it says this:Sneak in a shower with your loved one to start the day with some zest that doesn't come in a bar. Not only have you made a wise choice for the environment, but you may notice some other added...um...benefits.
Maybe shower with your partner was a little inappropriate, and I do not want to be reported by the yahoo answer system... Please notice that I was trying to help.
If you want to help make up for other people not doing their part, the best thing you can do, is to do your part really well. Picking up trash and plastic is good, but that is absolutely not the biggest thing you can do. The biggest difference that you can make to the environment is by watching your consumption! For example, dont buy things you dont need or arent going to keep for a long time, stop drinking out of water bottles or buying things that come in plastic containers when you can buy them in glass or aluminum since those two are theoretically infinitely recyclable whereas plastic is not, stop shopping at walmart (i know you are 16 but try to not have your parents buy things from there on your behalf) or any large store of that nature whenever possible, and as an organic gardener my most important is DO NOT EAT ANYTHING YOU DONT GROW YOURSELF WHENEVER POSSIBLE. There are alot of local places to get things like eggs from torture and chemical free chickens, fruits and vegetables (especially if you grow them yourself) that are not full of dangerous chemicals and petroleum based products or just as bad - GMOs! And plant something every once in a while that will help clean up the air, give you something to eat and save money from, and something that is MUCH better for you than what you will find at any store. It sounds like alot, but if you start small, by planting a few plants like cucumbers and tomatoes with some basic organic soil, or taking an extra 30 minutes to find local places to buy things and support the little guys bank account as opposed to walmarts, or even educating yourself little by little on what you are buying. Buying corn tortilla chips at the store for example seems like a harmless no brainer, but consider this; this is a processed food made out of GMO corn with plenty of chemicals in the corn and in the making of the chip itself. For starters, alot of petrolium and environment polluting biproducts are needed to run the machines that process these chips. Secondly, you can guarantee that the corn is GMO and full of pesticides, growth stimulators, and chemical fertilizers that come from petrolium that need to be applied often by many passes with an environment polluting tractor. As far as GMO is concerned (genetically modified organism), this is "corn" that has been injected with tumor cells from diseased cauliflower spliced with a part of the e coli virus chemically bonded onto a pig, fish or other animals DNA so it can "infect" the corn with "desirable" traits, meaning it is artificially and chemically engineered to not rot as fast so it is easier for them to ship (and in this process they do not waste money on things like good soil that will actually give the plant the necessary vitamins and minerals). Then you must consider the cost of transporting it from BFE or wherever the hell it was made, and the ships and semi trucks are also polluting the environment while bringing it to the grocery store. And you thought you were just getting a bag of tortilla chips? You are getting a bag of lies my friend. I still buy some chips every once in a while, but im just saying that the more you can go without it, the more you are helping the environment. Anyways, I hope this helps you think about life and the system a little differently.
You can help some animals that are hurt or have been injured. tell your friends to recycle and pick up trash and stuff.
With global warming on the rise, it's no news that this has been an age-old concern for us all. No one stopped to really do anything about it, so now we step in to set an example and be that change.
Make Use of Garbage Disposals
You see those big dumpsters dotting street corners, and those trash cans lined up against sidewalks? They're not there to put up a show, but for you to notice them and drop in your waste. It's sad when someone litters without the thought of 'let me hold on to this until I spot a trash can'. We need to consciously tell ourselves - that what little we do, does count. So the next time you get that urge to toss that gum or chocolate wrapper out the car window, or 'accidentally' drop it as you walk down the street - ask yourself how much waste you've been contributing to the environment with that bad habit of yours going on for years.
Go Easy on the Honking/Loud Music
Patience is a virtue not many people have and sometimes those who do, can lose their minds at some point over traffic. Try and wait for a couple of seconds for the person in front of you to make a move, and don't join in with the herd of impatient drivers that start to honk incessantly. We all know that loud music is justified when the weekend comes around. Try being a little sympathetic when it comes to your neighbors, and even to people across the street. Go by the curfew time, or make sure to turn it down at least when it's way past 11 p.m. Not everyone will be a fan of your music or noise that late, so try to be a little empathetic.
Don't Waste/Pollute Water Sources
The first thing to do at home is to avoid letting water run continuously or leave taps partially open. Make sure that taps are not leaky, or left unattended without use. This would help greatly in conserving water. Another helpful gesture, is to use CFL bulbs, since it's not only energy-saving, but cuts down on electricity costs as well. When exiting rooms in your home, be sure to turn the lights off as you leave.
Set an Example to Kids
As grown adults, it is your responsibility to pass on the message of simple ways to save the environment, and instill it in kids, until their old enough to take on the initiative alone. It is important to teach them how to get rid of waste, how not to litter play areas, streets and school grounds, how to advice someone on not littering if he/she were to witness an act, encourage environment related projects (planting trees, science projects on how to save the planet, street clean up sessions and so on) to help others in the class understand how important it is to cater to the planet, as well as get parents involved in helping them out. Starting with the kids is a good way of spreading the message early in their lives, in the hope that they carry it forward as they grow older.
Recycling
Recycling is a method of transforming items that can be reusable once they're disposed off by the public. This means that whatever is thrown out, like paper, tins, cardboard and so on, can be put through the process of reproducing them, to make new products. Not all plastic is recyclable, and must be avoided as much as possible. The environment cannot degrade plastic, so these are left to scatter and collect in places. Don't waste anything, and try to come up with ways on things you can use them again. Like say old magazines, newspapers and art paper can be used for projects. Try turning something you don't need anymore into a work of art and use it for another purpose instead. Be creative when it comes to things that you don't want that is in good condition, or sell them off, or better yet, give it away to charity.
With these environmental ethics in mind, we should be able to do what we can individually, for the results to have a bigger impact on the planet at large. Don't think that by being environmental conscious, you are being a sissy in some way if you were to point it out to someone who's hard-headed. As long as you do your part, and try to pass on that knowledge, the world is one small step closer to being saved.
