Help!! I want to retire so bad!?

I'm 62.5, have approx 240k in 401; if I retired today, my ss check would be 1825/mo. I could live on this however what would I do about medical until I turn 65 and get Medicare? Please give me your serious suggestions. Thank you so much.

You really should try to hold on a little longer until you at least reach 65. If you retire now, out of that $1875 check, you are going to need to buy health insurance.....and at your age, it could run you almost 1/3 of what your SS check would be.

At 65, Medicare kicks in and while you'll have to pay for Part B of Medicare, prescriptions and any Medigap insurance, it will be far less than what you'd pay for a policy now. Not only that, your SS check will be a bit higher.

are you sure about that SS check? retiring at 62 takes quite a hit from the age 66 full benefits. How did you get that figure? the social security agency statements annually are misleading because the amount they show is at age 66 full retirement

my advice is to stick it out, like the other responders said, you will have more in your ss check and be eligible at age 65 for medicare. your health care premiums will be exremely high if you go solo 9like $600 a month)

Hang in there, ==((((==))))== the wait is not so bad.

You don't have enough money to retire now.

These days you will need over 2 million to retire

comfortably.

You should also have a Roth IRA.

You will have to buy your own policy as I did.

I used a Dave Ramsey endorsed local provider who explained all the options and premiums. He also quizzed me about qualifying for ACA subsidies.

Get ready for sticker shock. You are going to have to assess your health care needs to figure out how high a deductible you can stand. You can also chat with your doc about your meds. I use several older ones for blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. that are $4/month.

You have more than the average retiree. Buy your own insurance and enjoy your retirement. {COBRA might be a good deal for the 6 months it is allowed.}

Stop crying. You made it this long so simply wait by working three more years. It goes by really fast.

Best of luck
