I suppose it depends on the pary. Is it a more formal dinner and dance or a casual patio grill hang out and chat. The first dress is very nice . Gorgeous in fact. A nice black dress can go for many occasions depending on how your accessories, hair style and make up. And providing it's a good fit for your body type. The second dress is very cute for a casual occasion. It really doesn't seem to have much range to be dressed up or down with accessories. It does however look more comfortable to move around in. What are your priorities in a dress for this occasion? Perhaps make a list and think about how each dress will preform for your priorities.
