there are plenty of options. You could do a skim coat of mortar over the existing stone to give it a clean slate, then do whatever you want. Brick Veneer, ceramic tile, a different stone look, or paint it to give it a stucco look. The key is to apply a bonding adhesive to the existing stone prior to the parge coat to help it stick.

id like to keep wood stove and i like the shelf. the mirror will definitly come down. i dont want to tear out the rock but possible resurface it some how. any ideas?
