I have water in my wall will it spread through my house or will it stay in one room?

The water you say you are experiencing is probably dampness, this can be caused by a broken roof guttering outside that is allowing water to run down the walls outside which is comming through to inside when it rains check and look for green stain on the bricks or wall outside, or it could be soil or vegitation in the garden outside that is piled up against the wall allowing moisture to track beyond the dpc (damp proof course ) in the building just above ground level. This may be caused by a leaking water drain pipe in the room above is it a bathroom? Its important that this is resolved as this dampness will soon lead to mould spores showing on the face of the wall this can spread to furnishings bedding and carpets. This can spread from room to room if not investigated and resolved. Is this rented accommodation? If so report this to the Landlord as they have a legal obligation to resolve this under your tenants agreement.

Water spreads through wicking, or wetting whatever it touches. Then the water in the new place will wick out to other new places, so yes, it will continue to spread, and that will cause another problem which is mold. Mold can cause serious health problems even when it's behind a wall because it contaminates the air. If the water has been behind the wall for a long time, you probably already have a mold problem. You need to have a contractor check it out.

So does that mean it will travel under my floor boards and around my house or just in one room? And will it burst my pipes?

Water anywhere is BAD! Get someone to stop it!

water flows and seeps

however you look at it

youll be getting it fixed

EDIT

Beth

depends on whats actually happening

but yeah

a slow leak can become a bigger leak

damp will rot and destroy timber and even create problems with masonry

how far it travels depends on the structure

you simply cannot just ignore it
