How can I keep the freezer from icing up so quickly in an old fashioned small room sized refridgerator?

You should check the door seals. If they are not sealing well that is the reason.

Yes, this is the most likely problem. The ice is frozen moisture from the air. And only open the door to get items out. Don't leave it open, close it s quickly as possible.

I just defrosted my freezer the old fashioned way like I remember my mom doing with a pan of boiling water and a blow dryer. What a pain. I was wondering how to keep ice from building up again. Maybe applying cooking oil or something. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks, Lisa
