Break the wait down into project times: certain amount of time for each project.......an hour? What can you do?
Hobby.......or time to start one. Something not messy since the cleaning lady was just there. I liked to draw and kept a sketch pad handy and eventually water colors.
Reading..........short time, say 20 pages or so.
Keeping a journal of your thoughts.
Learn to play a musical instrument--start with a small hand flute to see if music is your "thing"
Exercise.........I used to do yoga back before it became popular.
Watch TV, a channel you don't normally watch.........say History channel.
Foreign language...you can get beginner stuff on the web and go around the house identifying items in the new language.
Such a pity letter writing is a lost art. That was good for some quiet time.
Set the table for dinner, surprise your mother!
Puzzles, though that does take space in the house......those 1,000 pieces things. There are computer sites for easier puzzles. Other computer games like chess?

My cleaning lady only comes on a friday and tuesday and she normally leaves at 2 and my parents arrive at 5.
