Because these transactions occurred with my PIN, how likely is the bank and the local police department to investigate this?
I bank through chase and despite living in a big county, I don't believe our local PD in the city has a fraud department.
Because a PIN is required to withdraw, you're not going to get their best efforts on this. They are going to want to know how both your card and your PIN made it into the hands of an unauthorized user. They will probably go look at ATM videos, but also will be curious how you went through one and maybe two statement cycles over that period and didn't notice odd activity.
Just some things to be prepared to respond to.
You need to speak to your bank. But the problem you are going to have is that your PIN was used. The bank will assume that you either gave someone your PIN or were careless with it, allowing someone to access it. Only YOU know who could have gotten hold of your bank card AND your PIN - unless both were stolen, but then you should never write down your PIN number anyway.
Sounds like it might be a family member, who has ready access to your card and who knows where you have your PIN number written down
I've contacted chase and they will investigate. I'm concerned because my gf had a similar situation happen to her a few years ago. Chase did not refund her 5k because her pin was used, so they presumed she authorized the withdrawals
The bank will have video recordings of the ATM locations. You say "your debit card was used." How did the debit card leave your possession and why were you not aware of that fact and why did you fail to review your monthly statements?
Chase has a fraud department, and if they used ATMs at other banks or credit unions, those banks and credit unions have fraud departments. Call Chase immediately.
How was someone able to get both your ATM card AND your PIN code?
the Q that will be asked is - how did someone get your PIN ?? you may have some legal recourse IF you can prove that it was someone else that made the withdrawals - ATM cameras maybe ??
