I think text books are some can retain for the new students and keep the environment cleaner than just recycling. There are many ways to handle the old text books in terms of still usable, the content or the curriculum of the text book relating to the current applied text books of the similar grades.

You can simply donate the books to other children who need them.
But if you think that the condition of your books is not so good that any one can use it, then try to recycle it yourself. Believe me, recycling paper at home is good for our mother nature as well as its very interesting work. Just you have to do is to tear to pages into very small pieces and add a little water to it and then just crush it. When it becomes like a paste, take a little bucket full of water and soak the paper paste to it and leave it for about 2-3 days. Then using a sieve get the paper pulp out of the water and then place it in a square frame and place a cloth over it and press it. Then let it dry or you can use a hair drier to dry it fast. Tan-Tanna!! Your handmade paper is ready!
Check out Better World Books- many colleges have collection boxes for used textbooks
They might be usable in some third world country.
Cut out the center of each page and turn what is left into a book-safe. What you cut out can be recycled with other paper.
Salvage the covers for binding or rebinding books and blank or partially-blank pages for repairing tears.
Whenever you're trying to be sustainable, always follow the process of the three 'R's; reduce, reuse, recycle.
Of course, you can;t reduce what you've already gotten, but you can try to reuse it as much as you can. If it isn't worth reselling, see if you can donate it to the school or a thrift store. If all else fails, move on- recycle it.
Oh! You could try selling them on Craigslist or something like that. There's also goodwill, you could donate it there to someone who might like reading/collecting text books. If you're artsy you can try decorating it and making a craft. You could also decorate your house with them if they look classical. But if not, sell or donate. I'm sure you could also throw them in the recycling bin.
Sell them to your local book store or online, for a local pick up try craigslist. You can also donate them to the school you when to or the class you used them for. Also you can just give them to someone you kno in need of them. Good luck
You can just sell off your old text books to your juniors at lower prices or may be for free (donate them), so that they can be benefited.
I have a bunch of old textbooks and I want to get rid of them. Help!
