What is "free energy"?

Define the concept of free energy. Many videos on you-tube claims 100% efficient devices with 0% energy loses. Are they true?

A machine that is 100% is in conflict with the second law of thermodynamics, while one that exceeds 100% is in conflict with the first law of thermodynamics.

John W is actually party correct, since we are talking about free energy, not free materials. The energy the solar panels (PV cells) get is free, but the panels are not.

No, they're not true, nothing is 100% efficient and everything loses energy. Even if you did have something that was 100% efficient with no energy loss, what do you think happens when you use the energy to do work?

Nothing is free either, even solar power requires the purchase of the panels. A fixed capital cost up front is actually more costly and more risk then ongoing costs of the same amount. Once adjusted for by discounted cash flow, so called free solar power is easily more expensive than power from the grid.

Free energy

Energy you don't have to pay for. Such as solar panels on your roof.

Grandma had Granddaddy climb up on the roof and put and old washtub there with a pipe running down into the kitchen. She had hot running water for dishwashing and bathing.

Granny was a little ahead of her time.

Then, there is wind energy as demonstrated by windmills and water energy as demonstrated by dams. Either of these can be utilized in a smaller way by individuals.

I have also seen geothermal energy advertised. It comes from the ground. As for any appliance advertised, you'll just have to take your chances.
