Duty: a moral or legal obligation; a responsibility.
All Americans have a "duty" to show up when CALLED to serve on a jury. It is part of the requirements all adult citizens have. You don't show up, then yes you can be fined or jailed.
If you are called for jury duty, you notify your work and they let you go (they don't have a choice). If you have College, then you have notification ahead of time to make arrangement with your professors & the College itself. You are an adult, act like it.
When you do show, you can explain to a Judge if there are any outstanding reasons why you cannot perform your DUTY. They will take it under advisement and will factor in if there are enough other jury members.
exactly what is say's, you sit on a jury, hence the name "jury duty."
>If you got selected for jury service, do you have to go and how many days do you have to go?

>What if people have college or work?

>I heard if yoy don't go, you get arrested and go to jail. Is that true?
